The Vera sports hall becomes the ‘home’ of around 300 firefighters, coming from all over Spain
By land, sea and air, thousands of security and health care or emergency forces from all over Spain (and abroad) have come (and are coming) to collaborate in the relief work and restoration of normality in the DANA zone 0. They are disciplined, efficient…, but they are not machines or superheroes, even though they may seem that way.
The question is obvious: Where can they rest after marathon days of work? The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has taken a step forward in this sense, by providing some 300 firefighters and personnel specialized in emergencies with accommodation (roof where they can spend the night), maintenance (breakfasts and dinners), as well as coverage for their first needs (laundry service, showers, personal hygiene materials…), and means to stay in touch with their families. Every day, until they return to their destinations.
Llanes, Zaragoza, Mallorca, Ibiza, Miranda del Ebro, Pontevedra, Madrid, Barcelona, Murcia, San Sebastián, Alicante… are some of the origins of these firefighters and members of civil protection. They don’t demand anything, well they do: that they let them work.
